Abstract

This qualitative study explores the integration of deep learning theories in contemporary English language teaching to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. Deep learning emphasizes active cognitive involvement, critical thinking, and meaningful understanding, moving beyond rote memorization to foster comprehensive language skills. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving English teachers and senior high school students. Findings reveal that applying deep learning principles increases student motivation, participation, and pragmatic language use. Despite challenges such as limited resources and varied learning styles, teachers adapt curricula and employ authentic materials and collaborative activities to support deeper learning. The study underscores the importance of continuous teacher training, resource provision, and technology integration to maximize the benefits of deep learning in English language education. These insights contribute to advancing pedagogical practices that prepare learners for real-world communicative competence.
